A Few Attempts At Making Music

Making electronic music is something I’ve been dying to at least try. While I’m in no way musically talented or experienced, I love music, and I love being creative. So without further ado, here are my very first attempts at making electronic music. I’ve appropriately titled the songs, “First” “Second” and “Third.” Enjoy!

Coldplay Comes To Salt Lake City!

Three reasons why Coldplay has me excited all of a sudden:

• New album (Viva La Vida)
• North American tour (Any fan of Coldplay knows that they're not too keen on North American tours.....they are sorta a UK band.)
• Concert in Salt Lake City (As far as I know this is a first and what makes it much more exciting is the fact that Salt Lake City is the last stop of the North American tour! You better believe I'm going to that concert!)

Here are two new singles off the upcoming album Viva La Vida, which will be released June 17th.

What Have I Done!?!?

Oh boy, I've just purchased something that I shouldn't have. By which I mean, how much money I spent. I briefly mentioned in a previous post that I was looking to buy a music sequencer device, and I more or less did that. But also, I bought something that does much more than that! Intrigued? Just pretend like you are...

For whatever reason, I decided spending more money on my PC would be a good idea. Because yeah, what I really need is a second monitor after purchasing an expesive video card and core 2 duo processor. But alas, a second monitor is what I recently purchased and will be arriving via UPS on tuesday. "A new monitor? Thats lame." Not just any ol' monitor! I purchased a 19" glass touch screen monitor with decent specs. Just one more thing to proclaim my spoiledness! *pats self on back, nods head in approval*

The idea is that I'll be able to use a sequencer program in max/msp or Abbleton Live, for all of my touch screen musical needs. Then on the flip side, I'll be able to draw, animate, and whatever else I feel like doing on my new fancy mid-life crisis. No longer will the mouse hold me back! No longer will a mouse pad slow me down! Finally, I'll be able to embrace the refreshing cool breeze that is no pants and a stylus....Err I mean, just a stylus!...Don't pretend like you don't sit at the computer naked too...

School And Making Music

Finally! Seven tests later, I now have enough prerequisites to sign up for one measly entry level JCOM class! Those tests represent just a few of the many hoops I have to jump through to eventually graduate from college. Oh and I'm not just talking about any old hoop, I'm talking about those flaming hoops that dolphins do triple back flips through.

But enough about that. I'm very close to purchasing one of these or a similar device.

As of right now I have a few songs written and a ton of ambition for experimenting with music. More than anything, I'm just looking to have fun and explore music creatively. Such as, putting my own music to still photography and narrative for dramatic slide shows.

In the near future I'll be using this blog to host some of my music. I would also guesstimate that I'll be buying one of these within a month. Soooo excited!

Music Roundup

So I’m sitting my car today and my cell phone goes off. I reach to my pocket, but wait! My phone isn’t ringing. Then why am I hearing my ringtone? It was the radio. The worst radio station in all of Utah was actually playing a good song. Not just a good song, one of my favorite songs, one that is my ringtone.

It was a song by Kate Nash, one of my favorite singers. The song played was called “Foundations”. Apparently she’s growing in popularity and I didn’t even realize it!
On that note, I thought I’d provide a few links to some of my favorite artists. Who knows, these artists might even grow in popularity like Kate Nash.

Audiosurf Is The Best Music Game In Recent Years

If you don't know what Audiosurf is (and chances are you don't), its a music game for the PC that takes the music on your hard drive and lets you visually play that it. The idea is that you move a ship left and right to hit different colored blocks that are completely synchronized with your music.

Not only is it a music game but it's a puzzle game too. After hitting a colored block, that block drops down in a grid below you, match up groups of the same color and you get points.

The beta just barely ended today, I got to play it and it was AMAZING! I was overly skeptical because this was an indie developed game and most indie games just don't do it for me. But I gave it a shot and it turned out to be the best music game since Amplitude for the PS2. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Guitar Hero and Rock Band. (You heard me!) Why spend $170 dollars on Rock Band when you could pay $20 tops on a game that lets you use ANY song you want, not just the songs that came with a disk. Granted, with Rock Band and Guitar Hero you get to play with cute little plastic guitars.

If your interested in trying out this game, it will be released sometime next month and you don't have to buy the game either to try it out because the game comes with a 2 song trial version.
Currently this game is in beta which means you can go to this site: Audiosurf and enter your email. They'll give you an email the next time the beta is open and further details about when the game is released.
*If you want to try this game, your going to have to wait for either another beta or the release*

I strongly recommend giving this game try. It's a game for everyone because we all have music on our computers and its a game for everyone because of many difficulty modes.
