Wii Fit, A Surprisingly Good Workout

Despite being overly skeptical, I picked up Wii Fit last night at my local Wal-Mart. My skepticism had spawned from mixed reviews and well--the price tag. ($96 after tax) To my surprise, I found myself easily putting 2-3 hours into one workout session.

First off, I'm very impressed by the yoga workouts included in the game. Speaking as someone who really has no previous yoga experience, I had no idea that it could be such a great workout. And what makes the yoga especially good in Wii Fit, is the fact that the game gives you feedback on your body stance and posture in real-time. No yoga DVD in existence can give you that kind of treatment.

Then you've got a mix of other workouts including, aerobics, strength training, and balance games. So far I'm enjoying all of the workouts, but I wish there was a little more variety. Also, the game doesn't give you the option set a workout schedule. For example, after completing one workout, the game gives you the option to either repeat the same workout or exit and choose another. It's a shame you can't just pick a list of five exercises and follow through in a more fluid manner.

Overall, Wii Fit should only be purchased for those looking for a different approach to exercising, enjoy yoga, and might enjoy working out from home. For just the few hours that I've played so far, I can honestly say that my skepticism has been tossed out the window, and I can see myself actually using this product regularly. But like any regular exercise routine, time will tell if I can stay motivated.

Review: Lost Winds

Just like My Life As A King, Lost Winds is also a WiiWare downloadable title for the Nintendo Wii and costs $10. Here's my summary of why you should or shouldn't buy this game.

Pros
  • Rich colorful semi-3d graphics
  • Unique gameplay
  • $10

Cons
  • Short gameplay. (can be completed in 45 min - 3 hours)
  • No replay value
Personally, I really enjoyed this game, all three hours of it. But you could argue that $10 is a bit too steap for 3 hours of enjoyement. Overall this game was a very unique experience and perfect example of what the wii is capable of.

Review: My Life As A King

I'll try to keep this review as brief as possible. My Life as a King is a Final Fantasy game for the Nintendo Wii. Being that it is a Final Fantasy title and it is on a Nintendo console, that right there should be enough to tell you that you shouldn't expect the same production value of a "true" FF game. Oh and did I mention it's a WiiWare downloadable game, retailing for $15? Not too terribly expensive and I suppose that should be incentive enough to give it a shot. Admit it, you've all spent $15 on worse things. For example, the crap sitting next to your monitor.

So is it fun? Is it worth your time? I think so. After a few skeptical hours of playing the game, I found myself hooked. Then as time went on, not so much. Things started out well and then went down hill in a repetitious, tedious fashion. But for those few addictive hours, it was money well spent.

I honestly believe that no words or videos could persuade you to play this game. Heck, even I thought it sounded ridiculous and stupid when I first heard about this game. It's one of those situations where, if you have $15 burning a hole in your pocket, then give it a shot! If not, you're probably not going to regret leaving this one alone.

The Good And The Bad Of The Consoles

Want to know whats bad and whats good about the consoles? Want to know what kind of fan-boy I am? (hint, PS3) Or maybe you just want another opinion about a specific console before spending the dough. Here's my list of my pro's and con's of each major console....and yes, I do own all three consoles, so I'm allowed to bash whatever I feel like!

The PS3... the most surprisingly fun console.

-Classic Playstation controller except wireless
-Blu-Ray games and Blu-ray movies
-Upscaling dvd's via HDMI
-HD Graphics
-Sixaxis
-Downloadable content
-Best dashboard of the three consoles
-Bluetooth official remote control
-Remote Play
-Custom themes
-Constant firmware updates
-Plenty of hard drive space at a non Microsoft price
-Upgradable hard drives
-Free online play
-Most reliable console of the three. (yes, my Wii has broken once and my 360 is about to break any day now)
-Pixeljunk Monsters
-Everyday Shooter
-Uncharted
-Heavenly sword
-PS3 Home
-Little Big Planet
-Final Fantasy 13 in 2009

What I don't love about the PS3.
-It's freaking loud!
-It's freaking huge!
-It's freaking expensive!
-Not enough good games.
-Controllers are just barely getting rumble features.

Hit the link for the Wii and 360 lists.
The Wii...my most anticipated console
-Overall best multiplayer console.
-Cheap
-Unique
-Super Mario Galaxy
-Super Smash Bros Brawl
-Wii Sports
-Virtual Console
-Animal Crossing in late 2008-early 2009

What I don't love about the Wii
-Gimmicky
-Not enough "real" games
-Only 480p
-Controllers use AA batteries by default
-Expensive Virtual Console games
-Little to no online gaming
-Friend Codes
-Not enough of a reason to justify the Wii being "on" 24/7
-Still not available to purchase in stores

The Xbox 360... my least favorite console.
-HD
-Tons of downloadable content
-Scene It?
-Lots of Live users

What I don't like about the Xbox 360.
-CRAPPY D-PAD.......TERRIBLE TERRIBLE D-PAD
-Optical drive is noisy
-Consoles did not include HDMI support until recently
-Does not support blu-ray or HD-DVD GAMES
-Too many freaking FPS games
-Online service costs money.
-Expensive online rental service.
-Not enough variety in games.
-Red Ring of Death
-Accessories are freaking expensive!
-Controllers use AA batteries by default.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this post.
